India Etsy profit calculator — net margin per sale
Indian Etsy sellers often quote profit as sale price minus product cost. Real profit is what lands in your account after COGS, fees, shipping you pay, regulatory surcharge, and ads.
Profit formula (per order)
Net profit = Sale price − COGS − Outbound shipping − Etsy fees − Regulatory fee − Ad cost per unit
India Etsy fees include transaction %, local payment processing (INR card rates), listing cost spread across units sold, the regulatory operating fee, and optional off-site ads.
India fee stack (2026 typical)
- Listing: $0.20 per listing (renewed every 4 months or on sale)
- Transaction: 6.5% of sale price + delivery
- Payment processing: ~5% + fixed INR per order (local card rates)
- Regulatory operating fee: 0.29% now → 0.05% from June 22, 2026 on order total
- Off-site ads: 15% if enabled and order attributed (12% above $10K/yr Etsy sales)
Example: ₹2,500 handmade item
₹2,500 sale · ₹800 COGS · ₹300 shipping · no ads → after Etsy stack + 0.05% regulatory you might keep ~₹1,100–1,300, not ₹1,700.
At 40 units/month that's ₹16,000–24,000/mo difference between naive and real math — enough to decide if a SKU is worth scaling.
Why the June 22 drop matters for thin margins
India's regulatory fee is small in absolute terms, but on sub-₹1,500 listings the 0.24pp decrease frees ~₹3–6 per order — meaningful when you're competing on price with domestic marketplaces. Sellers still on 0.29% spreadsheets slightly overcount fees after June 22.
When to upgrade from a calculator
If you're doing 50+ orders/month across Etsy and Shopify, connected tools like TrueProfit (US$35+/mo) auto-pull fees from your store. Until then, fast what-if math with live regulatory rates is enough.
