Walmart Marketplace profit calculator — referral + WFS fees
Walmart sellers often price from gross margin (sale minus COGS). Real profit is what you keep after referral fees, optional Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS) costs, and outbound shipping.
Walmart fee stack (2026)
- Referral fee — 6–20% by category (most categories 15%; electronics 8%, jewelry 20%)
- Monthly subscription — $0 (commission-only model)
- Payment processing — included in referral fee (no separate Stripe-style cut)
- WFS fulfillment — optional $3.45–$15+ per unit by weight/size
- WFS storage — ~$0.75/cu ft/month if using WFS
- Your costs — COGS, seller-fulfilled shipping, returns buffer
Referral applies to total sales price including shipping charged to the buyer. Tiered categories (apparel, baby, grocery) use lower % on low-price items.
Profit formula
Net profit = Sale price − COGS − Referral fee − WFS/ship cost − Returns buffer
Referral = Sale price × category % — simpler than Amazon/eBay layered fees, but category choice swings margin by double digits.
Example: $40 home item at 15% referral
$40 sale · $15 COGS · $5 seller ship · $6 referral (15%) → net ≈ $14 (35%)
Switch to WFS at $4.50/unit instead of $5 ship and net rises to ~$14.50 — but add storage if inventory sits 90+ days.
Common margin mistakes
- Using 15% for every SKU — electronics at 8% vs jewelry at 20% changes reorder math
- Ignoring WFS on thin margins — $4+ fulfillment on a $12 item can erase profit
- Price wars without fee math — Walmart shoppers expect low prices; know your floor before matching
When to upgrade from a calculator
At 3,000+ orders/month, Sellerboard ($19+/mo) syncs Walmart, Amazon, and Shopify fees automatically. Until then, fast what-if math prevents listing losers.
